Have a business idea, but unsure where to start? Want to learn how local entrepreneurs built their brands? Don’t miss our latest edition of “The Learning Hour”!  Our incredible line-up of Female Founders is sure to inspire some “a-ha” moments and most likely a cry-laugh or two.  Join us as we chat on the wins and challenges of raising a brand to success.

Moderated by Makayla Kelley: Omaha native, Makayla Kelley, is the Marketing Coordinator extraordinaire for the Principal Financial Group’s Midwest region, owner and operator of both Toujours Wedding Planning and Provare: A Private Chef Experience, stand-up comedian, podcast host, the daughter Cher never knew she had, and somehow manages to keep two children alive. (98% comprised of coffee)

Female Founders:

From a cookie company in Lincoln to a move to Santiago, Chile to dodge law school, Ellie Pegler set out to New York City to pursue her passion for baking where she landed a job working at the busiest 2 Michelin bakery in the world.  Her journey includes finishing culinary school while opening fine dining restaurants throughout New York City, teaching at the International Culinary Center, becoming a certified sommelier, and completing degrees in both fondant work and Culinary Entrepreneurship which led her to designing and opening Farine+Four in Omaha.

With family roots in the restaurant industry and a degree in Justice & Society from Creighton University, Megan Malone advocate of human rights moved to Atlanta, GA to train under world-class leaders in the national cocktail scene. Her commitment to others can be found in the perfect blend of unique cocktails, chill vibes, and professional service set in the beautiful, designated safe space of Tiny House.

You may know Jen Penton as the super chatty, delightfully sassy, leopard-print wearing fashionista, but after a terrible accident while living in New York City, this social media maven turned her love of fashion and a knack for hoarding to launch an online “sell your closet” site, Brick and Hoarder.  Jen Penton will share how she turned an online store into a brick and mortar retail space in Little Bohemia.

When Mikala Harden isn’t serving the local arts scene or covering local music as a music journalist, this fierce female founded Say Hey There LLC, a marketing agency to perfectly complement your internal marketing team or as a high-quality alternative to a fully-staffed creative agency.  Mikala will share how she built her brand, her business, and how to “Speak up. Be heard.”
